Words Without Borders seeks applicants for its education fellowship. The new education fellowship program is designed to provide in-depth experience to individuals interested in a career in world literature—whether as scholars, educators, or curriculum developers. Working within WWB’s award-winning online education program, WWB Campus, the fellow will gain hands-on experience with the research and development of curricular resources, outreach to a diverse community of schools and educators, and digital project administration. During the fellowship period, WWB Campus will be developing its latest literary unit on writing from the Caribbean region.
This is a unique opportunity for an early-career education or publishing professional to learn about international literary arts education and program administration while also contributing to WWB’s mission to expand access to eye-opening international literature.
Responsibilities
Reporting to and collaborating with WWB’s education editor and curriculum designer, the education fellow will:
—Research and provide in-house expertise on literatures to be included in the next literary unit of WWB Campus, which will focus on the Caribbean region.
—Research and vet digital contextual materials to include with each piece of literature in the unit, corresponding with authors and translators as needed.
—Upload literature and resources to current WWB Campus website and support the migration to a new platform.
—Proofread curricular materials and guest blog posts; write blog posts when needed.
—Draft social media copy, select images, and schedule social media posts for WWB Campus content and news.
—Prepare monthly educator newsletters, event invitations, and announcements using Mailchimp.
—Provide event support for webinars and other WWB Campus events.
—Track program statistics, participating schools, and outcomes for grant and board reports.
Qualifications
—Bachelor’s degree required
—Familiarity, through either academic or personal background, with the literatures, cultures, and history of a country or countries in the Caribbean strongly preferred
— At least one year of classroom teaching experience at the secondary or college level strongly preferred
—Excellent verbal and written English-language communication skills; proofreading skills desired
—Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines
—Fluent in English with working proficiency in Spanish, French, or Haitian Creole strongly preferred
—Excellent organizational, research, and writing skills
—Demonstrated interest in international literature, global learning, and/or literary translation
—Experience using Mailchimp, CMS, social media, and YouTube a plus
The education fellow will work a part-time schedule of 20 hours per week for ten months starting in October 2021. This is a remote position; however, the fellow will be expected to be available during US eastern time working hours. This position pays $20–$22 per hour, DOE.
